Creation and Stewardship of Research Facilities and Equipment
(Acquisition of Research Equipment and Stewardship of Research Facilities)
The acquisition, maintenance, and timely replacement or upgrade of research equipment and research facilities across all disciplines represented on the Norman Campus, is foundational to the University's research mission. Upon completion and publication of a Norman Campus-wide Research Facilities Inventory, scheduled for summer 2011, the Office of the VPR will be well informed about the portfolio of existing research equipment and facilities, the condition of and necessity for research space renovation, and upcoming faculty needs that can be used proactively to drive searches for external funding. The Director of Planning and Research Facilities in the VPR Office has overall responsibility for ensuring that research facility and equipment needs are known and being met. This individual works directly with individual faculty, departments, programs and colleges to assess needs, acquire equipment, and coordinate renovation. Additional coordination takes place with the Center for Research Program Development and Enrichment (CRPDE), principally to identify potential funding opportunities far in advance of need or equipment failure.
